Tottenham Hotspur Partners with Fanatics as Licensing Presence Grows in North America
Wednesday July 15, 2015 – LONDON – Sports eCommerce giant to sell Tottenham Hotspur merchandise across its online platform. Tottenham Hotspur today announced a multi-year licensing deal with Fanatics, the largest retailer of licensed sport merchandise. The license enables Fanatics to sell a bespoke range of apparel and headwear through its online stores in USA and Canada, alongside an existing Tottenham Hotspur/Under Armour range, as demand for Club merchandise continues to grow in the region.
Fanatics has a proven track record in licensed sports retail across North America, working successfully with all major professional sports leagues, including the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL, in addition to hundreds of collegiate and professional team properties. Tottenham Hotspur is the first football club in Europe to sign a licensing deal with Fanatics.
“We are proud to become the first European football club to be working with Fanatics. Our North American fan-base is hugely important to us and this relationship will give our fans in the region greater access to our product,” said Gary Jacobson, Brand Licensing Manager at Tottenham Hotspur. “For a company like Fanatics to come on board is a testament to the growth of our licensing portfolio in North America during recent years as we strive to continue to take Club product into new and exciting areas of retail.”
Tottenham Hotspur has an estimated fan-base of over 14 million across the North American region, including more than 40 Official Supporters Clubs – more than any other Premier League team – and a squad that includes rising US Men’s National Team star, DeAndre Yedlin. Tottenham Hotspur will compete in this year’s Major League Soccer All-Star Match in Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday July 29.
The Club has also recently agreed a 10-year-partnership with the National Football League (NFL) that will see a minimum of two NFL games per year played at Tottenham Hotspur’s proposed new world-class stadium, due to open in 2018.
“We are very excited to partner with Tottenham Hotspur and help fans in North America connect with their brand,” said Brian Swallow, SVP, Strategy and Business Development at Fanatics. “With our leading technology platform and production and distribution facilities located strategically throughout the region, Tottenham Hotspur fans will now have easy access to an unparalleled assortment of the latest apparel.”
Tottenham Hotspur continues to make a significant commitment to grassroots soccer in the U.S., launching youth partner clubs in Tallahassee, Florida, and El Cerrito, California, offering hands-on coaching from its Global Coaching team, developing players using a unique ethos that is shared by the Club’s Academy.
The deal with Fanatics was brokered by Tottenham Hotspur’s official licensing agent for North America, Fermata Partners, and on the back of the Club’s third successive exhibition at the annual US Licensing Expo in Las Vegas last month.
Tottenham Hotspur product will be available across the Fanatics online platform ahead of the start of the 2015/16 Premier League season.
